10 Jul 2015
The Connemara Pony Breeders’ Society is delighted to announce the launch of its inaugural Art Competition as part of the Connemara Pony Festival taking place in Clifden, Co. Galway from Sunday 16th to Sunday 23rd August 2015.
The subject of the competition is the artist’s interpretation of the Connemara pony. Entries can be in any medium and the competition is open to entrants of all ages. Twelve finalists will be selected and their artwork will feature on an art trail in Clifden town during the Connemara Pony Festival as well as being included in the 2016 Connemara pony calendar. Local businesses will display the artwork in their windows for the duration of the festival. The winner will receive a €200 cash prize.
Competition judge and well known Galway artist Jay Murphy is “delighted to be a part of this wonderful competition which is open to artists of all ages. I will be looking for artists’ interpretation of the Connemara pony and I am looking forward to viewing those depictions in any chosen medium; draws, paintings, pastel or sculpture”.
The Connemara Pony Festival attracts visitors from all over the World and the twelve finalists will have the opportunity to sell their artwork during the festival if they wish. Connemara Pony Breeders’ Society President Tom MacLochlainn says “we are delighted to launch this new competition, which offers artists exposure on the Connemara pony platform which is internationally recognised”.
Closing date for entries is Friday 7th August. For more information like Connemara Pony Breeders’ Society on Facebook or contact Niamh Philbin on 095 21863. Entry forms can be downloaded here:
